Your Weekly Antics Good Enough Street Edition...9/18/26

Well kids, I hope you all had a good week. I was late to the game this year with our annual back to school picture, but that's because the college kids start later than everyone else. So, just to recap...I am aware that I am the mother and neighbor of now grown adults who no longer attend school but are working members of society. However, the agreement was made many years ago that until the last kid graduates from college, graduate school, whatever the case may be, they will all gather for the annual back to school picture no matter where they are or how old they are. Every year they do my heart good and never disappoint me. Exhibit 1, The Asbury Road kids back to school picture...and, here's what I've got...

1.Big news kids…Al, the follower of all rules large and small violated his own grocery store code of conduct. For you regular readers out there you should all be familiar with how much Al loves the grocery store, for real. He told me once that he was better at it than I am, and me, knowing not to look a gift horse in the mouth, quickly agreed, I’m no fool. But I digress…the follower of all rules took it upon himself and pulled one over on Wegmans, sticking it to the man, by going to the 15 items or less self-checkout line with 16 items…that’s right, 16 items. He was lucky to make it out of there alive. Exhibit 2, Deb enjoying a frosty Coors Light while admiring Angels face on my Stanley.

2. Naturally while he was in Wegmans I was not, because I know my place, when I’m wanted, and when I’m in the way, so off to TJ Maxx I went. I’m here to report that TJ Maxx has lost their damn minds and have turned my once happy place where I was always guaranteed to find things I definitely don't need, and they've gone and redesigned the whole damn store. Nothing, and I mean N-O-T-H-I-N-G was where it was supposed to be. They have completely ruined the fluidity and flow of the place screwing everything up. I find it too upsetting to share photo's and recount the anarchy that is now TJ Maxx to tell you the truth, so you’re going to have to believe me. TJ Maxx in Northboro, thanks for nothing.

3. Exhibit 3, how I remember to get gas. Don’t judge me, I’ve learned from past mistakes…

4. Al done with Wegmans, me being thoroughly disappointed in TJ Maxx as if I just found out there is no Santa, we decided to sooth our sorrows and treat ourselves to some Starbucks. That too was foiled no thanks to the B.J. gas station that is located just beyond Starbucks. Fun fact about B.J.’s Gas, the entire B.J.’s corporation could care less if you are at a half of an eighth of gas, they’re not selling it to you unless you have a B.J.’s membership. I have this on good authority because this may or may not have happened to me, and guess what…I still don’t have a B.J.’s membership and never will no thanks to their organization holding their gas hostage in my time of need way back when. But I digress again. Bottom line is if I didn’t already hate them, I would have ended up hating them because not only was every person known to man who had a B.J.’s membership in line to get their super duper bargain gas, but it must’ve been on extra top secret sale on Saturday because there was a line all the way out into traffic. To add insult to injury, this line of traffic prohibited me from drowning my sorrows in an Iced Pumpkin Cream Shaken Espresso that I was looking forward to ease the pain that TJ Maxx had inflicted upon me. You can suck it too B.J.’s Wholesale…you and TJ Maxx are dead to me. Exhibit 4, sticker sighting at a local nail salon out in Dorchester.

5. I should clarify, only T.J. Maxx in Northboro is dead to me, I haven’t completely lost my mind. Exhibit 5, Luis doing the work of the people...I was just sitting around.

6. Prior to suffering shoppers’ disappointment, Al and I could be found standing around like common criminals Saturday morning in downtown Worcester. The middle kid was running the Canal Diggers 5k and being the preferred caregiver that I am, I dragged Al down there to cheer her and her friends on. Anyone from the Woo will tell you that there’s barely any pedestrian activity during the work week and even less on the weekends (except Reed, don't ask him, he only works in the Woo and has no idea what the hell is going on...) Vehicle traffic is generally at a minimum, but I’ll tell you that there is enough vehicle traffic that could disrupt a road race. Worcester really needs to do better. There was only one lane of traffic blocked off for the runners and even then, vehicles managed to get through and drive around participants running in the street. They couldn’t have shut the whole street down for an hour? It was a 5K, not like it was a full-on marathon. Exhibit 6, these crazy kids running because they chose to, not because they were fleeing from the law.

7. We had a lot of rain last Sunday; it was no joke. Goose was not happy that we did not move her personal toileting facilities indoors and regardless of the weather, she was expected to go outside. She stood in the rain, distraught, acting as if she was being attacked by tiny little rain ninjas as each individual rain drop pelted her. This next Exhibit is not of Goose standing in the rain, but instead of her on a nice day when she was out on the deck doing as my kids used to do when they were little…closing her eyes pretending I wasn’t there so she wouldn't have to do what I expected of her. This is however, the same face she made while she was under attack outside in the weather.

8. It finally happened. After all my years doing the work of the people out in the community, I was followed home. The rats have found me people, and I’m not happy about it. It has come to my attention that they too do not discriminate and will travel near and far regardless of demographics and what neighborhood you live in. They’re opportunistic little bastards and are more than happy to get their steps in and migrate to other neighborhoods. We have seen them scurry under the cover of darkness wandering into backyards to check things out. This infiltration has been discussed with Gibson who has made it perfectly clear that it is not his problem taking the if they’re not bothering me, I’m not bothering them approach. Clearly, he has forgotten where he came from and has turned his back on his farm dog roots now that he is accustomed to city living.

Boston has their own rat problem and with that said, Sam's ongoing beef with the Boston rats continues. Earlier in the week he had a standoff at the bottom of his stairs while trying to get up to his apartment. While Sam was being held hostage by said rat, Casey naturally caught it all on film as any good fiancé would do. I'd share the video, but I was unable to obtain the rats consent.

The middle kid and I found ourselves cutting up a side street in Boston a few weeks ago and wandered upon this street. I had no idea where it was leading us to, but I liked the name, it fit our situation, and up the hill we went. Exhibit 7, best street name evahhhh.

And last but not least, Exhibit 8, Reed's new lawn mower. Please note, that he purchased and assembled this fine piece of equipment before he even has a lawn. He may just decide to take it to the streets of the Woo so he can start figuring out where everything is.
Have a great weekend!
