Hope you’ve enjoyed our Fool’s Spring because according to the powers that be, we will be under 8-12 inches of snow by tomorrow, or maybe 6-10 inches, or maybe a dusting to one inch…or maybe just rain, or sleet…who knows. So don’t let this week be the week you read on and listen to a word I say, or heed any advice given, you’re all on your own. You may open your back doors sometime Friday or Saturday to a foot of snow, or maybe it’ll be another record breaking gorgeous 68 degree day like we had this week – your guess is as good as mine. Here’s what I’ve got…
1. Despite the fluctuating changes in temperatures and you never know what you’re gonna get kind of weather, things are looking up people – even before Daylight Savings time on March 13th, we’re already earning approximately 1-2 minutes of day light every day now until the summer solstice on June 22nd. But don’t take my word for it, check this out…

2. City trash bags, I hate them. As residents of our fine city can attest to, the price in city trash bags increased at the start of the year from $7.50 to $10 for a package of 10 small bags. A package of five large bags went from $7.50 to $8.75. Apparently this is the first price increase since 2008. However the quality hasn’t improved …now we’re paying $10 for a package of trash bags that will split and break instead of $7.50. That’s two dollars and fifty cents more annoying when they break and your trash spills out all over your driveway. They suck.
3. Unless….the increase in cost of the city trash bags is to raise money to fix all the potholes in the city? Doubt it…
Want to report a pothole? Go to this on line form...give it a shot...

4. Trash talking and mean people. Use your time and your energy doing and saying something good for a change. You never know when a kind word or a little bit of encouragement will make a world of difference - you take a few minutes out of your day to do something nice for someone, and not only might it make a difference in that persons life, but in your own as well - and the thanks may come to you on a bad day, during a dark hour, in the form of a small token of appreciation from around the world. Be kind all the time, even when no one is watching, that's integrity. If more people possessed this characteristic, we'd all be better for it. For example, if you're going to bomb a country, maybe don't do it in the middle of the night when everyone's asleep - coward. So get it together and quit being a jerk.

5. Ice fishing on a 68 degree day…still wondering how that worked out for an occasional reader of The Antics – my questions are… did you ice fish at Lake Quinsig? I’m thinking Lake Quinsig is so toxic these days that the radioactive sludge that once lined the lakes floor coupled with the now more recent septic mishap that floats on its surface may have been what kept that ice afloat with you on it. Question #2, Did you catch anything? If so, please tell us you threw it back - and finally, it’s okay to admit that you really caught your fish at the Seafood Counter at Big Y. We need answers….
6. I’m happy to report I’ve had a cat and rooster free week thus far. It is however, only Thursday. I’ll keep you all informed.

7. Heads up people, indoor softball season/practice is upon us. Now’s probably a good time to remind Coach Matt that everything he does or says will be subject to constant ridicule by the 14 year old girls he coaches, and I will be there to document all shenanigans, words of wisdom and one liners as I plan on using anything and everything I can against him as material for The Antics. Don’t thank me now people, I treat this as a service to all of you. It would be unfair to keep all of this unsolicited material to myself and not share it with the public.
8. Speaking of the public, despite the gorgeous weather this week, people driving out there were still a bunch of lunatics. Let me sound that out for you…Loon-a-tics. I may or may not have been one of them. Go ahead, pull the video from street cams, I dare you.

9. It hasn’t been mentioned in recent weeks but do not despair, the mockery of Al by the youngest Kap kid lives on. The two were discussing the latest guitar that one of the musicians they follow recently purchased. Al says, no I haven’t seen it yet. Meri says, maybe you haven’t seen it yet because it’s green - Al’s color blind -

10. Here’s a little something, Exhibit 1, this lily. This lily was almost thrown away when the other lily's in the bunch bloomed and then the colors eventually began to fade and the petals fell off. They soon were on their way to the trash when this little guy was discovered, an un bloomed bud, hidden within the bunch. This bud was plucked from its friends, put in some water and given the best seat in the house - in the sun on the kitchen windowsill. In just a few days, that little bud bloomed and opened and is living her best life, as fleeting as it may be, soaking up the sunshine. See what a little water and sunshine can do for you? Keeps you outta the trash - so get out there people - soak up the sun.
11. And last but not least, remember, we've got 60 to 120 more seconds of day light each and every day from now until June 22 nd, use it wisely, don't waste it. Stay hydrated and look up in to the sunshine - it's good for you.
Be safe in the snow, have a great weekend!
